#DiaDeLosMuertos #DayOfTheDead #Flores #Flowers #Mexico

Today, my friends from Mexico stopped by to pick up the marigolds that I had for them. Marigolds are the traditional flower for decorating the home altar (ofrenda) for remembering the deceased.

A nice surprise was that they dropped off some homemade “pan de muerto” (bread of the dead). It’s a sweet bread decorated with crossed “bones” made of pieces of dough.

Three plastic grocery store bags filled with large bright orange flowers. The flowers are still attached to a few inches of stem with green leaves. Three round sweet breads on a large dinner plate. The bread is a rich tan color with a sheen (from egg?). The top of each bread has a raised cross or X formed from bread dough.

My latest art installation: “Unfencing”

Removing a fence post. A black and orange hi-lift jack next to a gray steel fence post. The jack is attached to the post with a small chain that’s wrapped around the post. Behind the post is the woven wire fence, now unattached. Weeds at the bottom, beautiful blue sky above.

#Sunset #Atardecer #Clouds #Iowa

Dramatic sunset. Small bird (junco?) added for scale 😁 Looking past a green metal gate, tall weeds, and dark fields. The sun is setting behind storm clouds. Sunbeams radiate upwards past wispy white and gray clouds. Tones of blue and gray with the smallest hint of pink here and there.
