Before briefly visiting the German government's annual digital summit tomorrow, I have to do some debunking:
First, ‘sovereign AI’ is designed to drive investment and deepen, not reduce dependencies.
Second, some consider ‘safe AI’ a basis for broad alliances from the ultra-right to the left. But 'safe AI' sells the quest for a 'well-meaning superintelligence' to downplay today's devastating impacts of the 'AI' project. We need to be careful when picking our allies.

For the avoidance of doubt: As already two years ago when I hosted a workshop there (as part of my day job back then), I fully reject the summit as a paid lobbying event and am concerned about the role of NGOs in ethics-washing this. I am going for a few hours just to get a sense of the discussions, and without any expectation of meaningful discussion taking place there. These places are vehicles for the techno-industrial-military complex.
