#SilentSunday

Vertical photo of the near-silhouette of the top of a tall Ponderosa pine snag against a dark grey backdrop of overcast morning sky. The snag looks like an enormous antler or a wooden sculpture of a reverse hammer and sickle, and there are eight european starlings--here, dark silhouettes like miniature ravens with pointy bills--perched in its reaches.

Typed "ghost birds" in my photo search on a whim and pulled the first several results together:

Collage of nine photos all showing glowy, eerie, ghost-lit photos of various birds, some just in black and white, others filtered to emphasize their hauntedness: 1. A leucistic peacock perched up on a wooden ladder as shown through a flashingly white bar of intervening light. 2. The silhouette of a black phoebe sitting on one of a series of branches that reach like a skeletal hand across a lake speckled with tiny black flies like television snow. 3. A small, white egret feather waving from the near-silhouette of a wild rose bush like a solitary ghost amongst the dark beads of rose hip. 4. A close-up of a great egret backlit by brilliant sunlight and vignetted by white. 5. A stark silhouette of a berry- and twig-knotted bird nest backlit by a filter glow to emphasize the match of the nest to the surrounding twiglets on its hosting branch. 6. A close-up photo of a starling bowing eir head, eir eyes lidded only with eir nictitating lens so e looks sinister rather than sleepy. 7. A dreamy black and white photo of dozens of great egrets up in the windy heights of a cluster of pines, looking more like ghosts or a ghost's collection of waving handkerchiefs hung on the branches in lovely tatters. 8. A pale sepia photo of a goldfinch perched in tall grasses and overexposed by a backlight of brilliant white sunlight. 9. The silhouette of a ruby-crowned kinglet taking flight from a row of leaves like miniature trees in silhouette.

#Caturday

Photo of my floofy grey and white cat Neverfell sitting in quarter profile atop a large, colorful cushion against a backdrop of dark orange wall and a similarly colorful hanging print (of a mockingbird haloed with the different birds they can imitate). Grey morning sunlight is just lifting to light her from the window off camera, as Fell looks up towards the far ceiling, which must be covered in a little storm cloud of swirling ghosts judging from the rapt and wide-eyed look on her face.

Knit myself a little friend today.

Photo of a hand-knit pumpkin made from bulky, golden-y orange wool using a wide-wale rib stitch and a surprisingly thick cinnamon stick for a stem. The pleasantly squat little pumpkin (about the size of a smooshed volleyball) is sitting on a weather-beaten wooden deck railing against a backdrop of gold and russet maple leaves and stubbornly green, though yellowing, curly willow leaves.
