One thing you learn with age. (Grumpy Old Man incoming). Don't accept compromises. When you are sure about something, stick to it. But don't brag about it, don't play your ego. Just make sure you know what you want. And start working the works to get others on your side. Ideally by making your ideas their ideas. And supporting them. Let them make the mistakes you made. But be there to help when they need your help. Be patient. Be consistent. Be reliable. Is all.

Do you notice how many in politics and the media work hard to make sure you do NOT connect the young people protests all over Europe and beyond to the election result in Serbia?

Because while there is an obvious connection, thinking it through would lead to results they are not ready for. So. Keep on taking the streets and vote whenever you can :)

On-Prem "AI" works and is Good Enough™ so more companies are running Open Weight LLM inference on their own bare metal. Says IBM CEO Arvind Krishna. I am not surprised. If you can save 90% of the costs and, more importantly, keep your data and prompts local, err, sovereign —it not only makes business sense, it also keeps the lawyers happy.

I guess I start to understand the "grumpy old man" thing. At a certain age you grow tired of all the childish jokes people make to deflect from actually dealing with the real problem. And you recognise you did this yourself for many years.

@dasgrueneblatt Das Stadtzentrum und Teile vom Osten Münchens wurden bereits 2015 erfasst. In 2020 wurde dann im Südosten losgelegt. Jetzt wird der größte Teil der Fläche erfasst. What I really like about the #Fediverse and my followers/friends: They love to share a good moment. Either by posting something nice themselves or by boosting something positive I post. So thank you!

What I don't like about the Fediverse: how strangers often jump on these positive posts and immediately try to turn it negative, either by sarcasm, doomsday "but what if" etc. That works on Twitter/Facebook etc with their algorithms rewarding controversy, but here it does not. They will learn :)

Open Source and Free Software is not "an alternative to $PROPRIETARY". In my opinion it's a parallel world where similar questions lead to marginally or completely different solutions to problems. Whenever you compare FOSS to proprietary things, you end up in a dependency, dictated by the proprietary vendor. That limits creativity and blocks ways to better and more interoperable solutions that share code. We should build better worlds, not open knock-offs :)

In #Munich, you might see (and hear, feel) this weird machine, making weird vibration and sound sweeps. This is part of the Giga-M project. Its goal is to create a detailed 3D map of the underground in Munich and surrounding areas (in total 1100 square kilometres) that will be made available as #OpenData to assist in planning geothermic plants. Switching away from fossil fuel for heating. Impressive!

Wenn man schon ewig die Springer Presse in die Kanzlermaschine einlädt, dann ist NIUS auch keine große Überraschung. Das man sich damit im vorauseilendem Gehorsam mit Demokratiefeinden umgibt bleibt trotzdem ungeheuerlich für mich.
