The connection was lost. Trying to connect again.

A little tired tonight but decided to see what the inside of the Duo Minidock looks like. What a wild piece of equipment.

I'm probably oversimplifying this, but it basically turns a PDS slot into ALL of the ports in a tiny package. With optional modem, natch.

The ribbon cable from the massive dock port to the board is all connector! There are 4x 'normal' sized connectors! Going to recap it without removing this piece...it's only the 4 trash cans off to the side (phew).

The dock, on a table, with the top opened up to show the dock connector on top of the board. 4 big trash can caps are on the left The backside of the board, jammed with components A close up trying to show the connector madness on the ribbon - there are two rows of two connectors forming like a 150 pin or so connector

@likesoldmacs I've always thought the Duo dock series was one of Apple's more innovative products of the time. I had the sense it never caught on, maybe because people were more likely to own desktops than laptops. Still seemed like a pretty cool idea.

@csilverman I absolutely adore them! The price of these and their ecosystem bits was stratospheric though. Given the original pricing I'm surprised there are so many in the wild. Like these had to have been for top paid paper pushers or exec level on the road folks. Too underpowered for graphics pros and too expensive for education tho 馃し馃徏

ps working up the courage to take a run at a thorough screen cleaning on the Freestyle...stop by sometime!
