Just got a lengthy rant from someone about what a terrible person I am, responding to a post of mine from a YEAR ago in which I mentioned that I used a rideshare service to get to a medical appointment.

I don't drive. I do, in fact, sometimes use rideshare services. I am quite possibly a terrible person, but I doubt you have enough information to independently conclude that.

@mattblaze Wait… I’m apparently way behind. Why are rideshare services considered terrible? I use them often while I travel around. Gonna use one this week in Prague. TWICE. I don’t want to play the bus-train-bus-walk-bus game, in Czech, to get to where I want to go.

@Unabart There are rideshare services that are badly exploitative of their gig-economy drivers, although it's not really clear if that's overall significantly better or worse than it is in traditional taxi services. And it's environmentally worse to use private cars vs. mass transit, but the practicality of mass transit options available to people for particular rides obviously varies quite a bit.

@mattblaze As a fellow non-motorist I resort to the rare taxi. I dislike the exploitive concept of ride-share; so far I haven't needed it. But if I do someday, I'll use it, as should you.

@oclsc One of the problems is that in many areas, the rideshare services have reduced the number of taxis, so rideshare can be the only viable option if you need a ride.
