Power plants are often regarded as utilitarian eyesores, and are rarely (generally only under public pressure) built to look beautiful or interesting, (London's Battersea Power Station was a notable exception). Generally, like here, any beauty to be found is accidental, a direct consequence of interesting form happening to follow from function.

I captured several versions of this, with exposures that kept the moving train sharp or blurred it to varying degrees. I think this was the most successful attempt, with the train blurred enough to suggest motion, but not so much that it's unrecognizable.

Motion can be a central part of a still photograph.

This was captured with the Rodenstock 70mm/5.6 HR Digaron-W lens and the Phase One IQ3-100 back. A bit of vertical shift was used to keep everything straight. A 1/2 sec exposure provided just the right amount of motion blur for the passing train.

The power plant generates electricity (now oil fired, converted from coal) as well as steam for Philly's Center City steam loop. The rail bridge extends the former Pennsylvania Railroad's "High Line" into south Philly's Greenwich rail yard.

I try not to over-react to the Internet's Outrages Of The Day, but it should be instantly disqualifying for a CEO of a company that sells reliability and security to tell employees that careful testing is "loser thinking". And if not, it should instantly disqualify that company's products from your consideration.

What the hell, Proton?

Captured with the Rodenstock 40mm/4.0 Digaron-W lens, Phase One IQ4-150 back, a small amount of vertical shift.

The San Mateo Bridge, spanning the San Francisco Bay just south of SFO Airport, is relatively unremarkable except for its seemingly endless length. Occasionally known locally as the "S&M Bridge" for its often painful traffic congestion, looked at from the right distance, it can appear rather serene.

I can't get out of my head the fact that there may be an alternate universe where after Trump tried and failed to overturn the 2020 election, he was forced to flee to Brazil to evade prosecution.

Question for federal criminal law talking people: The latest Comey information charges him with violating 18 USC § 793(d), a broad statute covering mishandling national defense information. Everyone (including Comey's lawyers) seems to believe the statute of limitations here is 10 years. But I can find no exception to the default five year rule for 793. What am I missing?

(There's a similar offense in 50 USC § 783 with a 10 year limit, but that wasn't charged here).

Just got a lengthy rant from someone about what a terrible person I am, responding to a post of mine from a YEAR ago in which I mentioned that I used a rideshare service to get to a medical appointment.

Captured with a small full frame mirrorless camera and 21mm lens.

A six second exposure created a motion study; we can see how people move around the plaza. Or perhaps they're ghosts.

Compositionally, this is mostly a study of circles and rings, with an imaginary diagonal radiating from the fountain to the man with the camera in the lower right.

Captured with a small mirrorless camera and 21mm lens late on a winter night.

The "Steak and Bagel Train" has served intermittently as a neighborhood breakfast and lunch joint. It had been abandoned and neglected for a number of years, but was renovated and re-opened in 2010. Sadly, it closed again a couple years later. I believe "Since 1907" was entirely fanciful.

The structure was originally a Reading Railroad dining car. It sits on an abandoned siding near Broad Street in Philadelphia.
