Just trying to spread the good word about IPv6. Member of an obscure technical group on the internet. Still remember when it was all the ARPANET. DNS/DNSSEC.

Love pretty much any musical instrument with strings and frets (and a few with just strings). Play/build/repair as many of them as I can.

Profile picture is a 1924 Gibson F-4 mandolin with a Virzi tone producer.

i do screen followers. if you are brand new, don't have any useful bio, or posts, generic avatar, etc. i will probably deny your request.

one other surprise. if you're doing a lot of email to/from .DE, some german providers are very fussy when dealing with spam/blocks that you must have a web site with contact info. i don't have a web site listed and i haven't had a problem but a mail operator mailing list i'm on does have folks sometimes mention hitting this.

if you register your domain/server with google & microsoft, most of the time deliverability isn't a problem. yahoo goes back and forth on being difficult.

i get email to all 3 pretty reliably. every so often, mail i sent goes into spam but if the user marks as "not spam", that usually cures the problem.

for software, doing postfix and dovecot. i also do postgrey, which is occasionally annoying but spamhaus RBL and postgrey probably eliminate 2/3s of incoming spam before it even gets delivered to my server.

SPF/DMARC are a one time DNS update and opendkim does dkim painlessly. (i also do my own DNS).

been doing my own email for decades. it is some effort but not overwhelming.

the biggest problem these days is getting a VM on clean IP space (good reputation). lots of folks block OVH/digital ocean VMs. but there are smaller VM vendors that are affordable ($5-10/mo).

you do have to make some effort to register at microsoft and google so you have a way of reporting deliverability issues if there is some blip but those are one time things.

i do have to do some IP blocks and domain level SMTP blocks to keep my reputation clean but with spamhaus RBL and some judicious blocking, spam is in double digits a week.

i do like being able to have unique emails for every vendor i use and a separate personal one given only to family/friends. makes it easy to ditch an address if it gets stolen from the vendor.

i caused my dutch coworkers lots of amusement when they found out that i really like venco licorice, the semi-salty ones. they didn't expect anyone in the US even knowing what they were.

got the habit from a supervisor who'd lived in nijmegan for years and always had them on her desk.
