I like the “My9Albums” concept but my brain exploded when I tried to pick ’em because I’ve been a music fiend longer than most of you have lived, so I needed to add criteria. I noticed that the “most selected” list included exactly zero entries featuring women, so all of mine do.

#My9Albums

Cesária Évora is probably the only person you’ve ever heard of from Cabo Verde, which is an island group 570km west of Africa’s westernmost point. She was a really great singer and recorded lots of fine collections of music. Ferron came out of the “Women’s Music” ecosystem, if these songs don’t squeeze your heart then nothing I can say will help you. Cheap Thrills is Janis Joplin's masterpiece. I have heard sober-minded people argue that Elgar’s Cello Concerto played by Jacqueline du Pré is the single greatest instrumental performance of any piece of music, any genre, any instrument, ever. Patricia Barber is from Chicago and her music is almost unbearably intense. She has lots of albums that are almost as good as this one. Court and Spark is canonical. The Hildegard von Bingen music is almost a thousand years old and Emma Kirkby has one of the most beautiful voices ever recorded, plus the music its good. I attended the tour that went with Mister Heartbreak and it was easily in the top 3 musical performance I've ever witnessed. Blondie's Greatest Hits: "Oh… Your hair is beautiful"

@robpike Well, and Patsy too. But actually I discovered that part of the landscape later in life.

@timbray When we at the Labs were putting together what should have happened instead of MP3 (long sad story), I used Patsy's Crazy as my test song because I knew I could hear it forever and not mind.
