Professor of astronomy, farmer of goats. Asteroid (42910). She/her.

Living and learning on the land and under the skies of Treaty 4 (Saskatchewan, Canada).

Thanks to Saskatchewan's beautiful night sky, my research background in small body orbital dynamics, and a couple of really unfortunately placed SpaceX reentries, I spend a lot of time yelling about satellite pollution in international news media.

This emotional rollercoaster brought to you by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. I hope you enjoyed the ride. I did not.

Time to make a cake and watch my kids carve pumpkins. Holy shit what a week.

I'm so mad. It hasn't come back up. They really took the site down for the weekend right before the major deadline for like...everything.

WELP time to walk away from my computer and bake something ridiculous.

Well shit I guess I'll submit first thing on Monday morning, like every other research professor in Canada. I'm sure that'll be fine.

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has discovered a new Dwarf Planet candidate in our solar system - 2026 ED138, a large, bright trans-Neptunian object orbiting beyond Pluto.

Distance from Sun: ~46 au (1 au is the average distance between the Earth and the Sun. Pluto has an average distance of 40 au)
Orbital tilt: 25°
Diameter: 600 - 1500 km

If confirmed, ED138 would be among the largest dwarf planets ever discovered in this region of the Solar System.

Good moonrise, good dogs.

Our planet is really a neat one. Worth fighting for.
