A 4 panel cartoon by Sarah Andersen: Panel 1: A friendly faced black witch with a black cat, "Why do witches always have black cats?" Panel 2: A close up shot of the black cat, "Is it because they look spooky?" Panel 3: The witch is looking at her wardrobe rack of black dresses with a white cat sitting in front of it. The black dresses have white cat hair all over them. Panel 4: The witch is crying while holding a white hair covered dress

"Die KI-Blase platzt leise", prognostiziert die Professorin @alke_martens von der Uni Rostock im brand eins Podcast bei @detektorfm . Aus ihrer Sicht braucht es für produktive Ansätze ganz neue technische Ansätze, die über Sprachmodelle hinausgehen.

Die Kombination mit politischer Macht ist für Alke Martens ein Grund für die Stärke der Tech-Konzerne. Sie plädiert insbesondere dafür, keine kreativen Arbeiten mit KI zu machen.

The alert that will matter most here is the absence of logs: a small heartbeat from each node's rsyslog to the log host, and a page when a node has sent nothing for, say, ten minutes. That is the failure mode that quietly turns a working archive into a silent one. The rebuild-time win from 39 to 9 minutes is the kind of thing you only discover because you now have the data to measure it.

Providers of online social networking services and of video-sharing platform services shall put in place measures to limit the visibility of any information shared by minors and their interactions with other recipients of the service. Those measures shall include at least the following: (a) by default, other recipients of the service not previously accepted by the minor shall not be able to access account information of the minor or content uploaded or shared by the minor on the service; (b) recipients of the service without an account shall not be able to access account information of minors or content uploaded or shared by minors on the service; (c) the personal contact details of minors, such as their name, phone number, e- mail address and address, shall not be disclosed to or shared with other recipients of the service; (d) minors shall be able to easily control the visibility of any content shared, interaction and related metrics on the service; (e) other recipients of the service shall not be able to download or take screenshots of contact, location or account information of minors or of any content uploaded or shared by minors on the service; (f) minors shall, by default, not be able to host real-time transmission of user- generated content, including through live-streaming of audiovisual content.

RE: podcasts.social/@behindthecons

My Proxmox lab’s logs were well kept and never read. Now Graylog reads them: three Data Nodes that never move, one server that moves when it has to, and every remote address in one field, so one search follows one visitor everywhere.

Seven failure tests found a firewall that had never been on. A Data Node rebuild went from 39 minutes to 9.

Write-up and a 70-page PDF:

This could be the end of Type 2 diabetes.

Researchers at ETH Zurich led by Martin Fussenegger built a small wireless implant that uses electricity to break down extra sugar in the blood.

It switches off when levels are normal — and means people won’t need diabetes drugs anymore.

Inside is a catalyst made of graphite felt coated with tiny gold and platinum particles, with no living cells or drugs. A glucose sensor worn on the arm watches sugar levels. When they climb after a meal, it signals a phone or smartwatch, which switches on the implant.

The catalyst then turns glucose into gluconate, a harmless compound the body flushes out in urine, and the system shuts off once sugar is back on target.

In diabetic mice, the device kept blood sugar under tight control for six weeks, the animals lost weight, and it caused no sign of tissue damage.

Because less sugar ends up stored as fat, the team sees it as a possible tool for both type 2 diabetes and obesity, without daily pills or injections. So far it has only been tested in mice, and human trials are still ahead.

Three Small Computers, One Big Promise

In the beginning there was one server, and it was fine, right up until the moment it was not.

What follows is the logical next step for anyone who has ever stared at a single server and wondered what would happen if it simply stopped. I built a three-node
