Designer, artist, iPhone Notes limit pusher. I know the difference between a "font" and a "typeface", but I'm not obnoxious about it.

A note: while I CW the occasional political post, I don't typically CW things like faces or food. My art is weird, often includes eyes/faces/masks, and can be (I'm told) eerie.

#inktober day 27: dumb

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A huge "dumb phone" carved from stone rises from a grassy, flower-dotted hill like some ancient Stonehenge-style remnant. The phone is one of those candy bar models from the early 2000s: numeric keypad, a few buttons for answering calls and navigating menus, and a tiny screen. It has a stubby antenna sticking out of the top. A few birds perch on the top of the phone. The sky is blue and slightly cloudy. In the distance is a bluish mountain. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

Fellow typography nerds, we have a soft spot for great lettering and signage in the wild. Stopping to admire these works is a natural instinct.

So when we gather at events, someone usually organizes a type walk — an intentional route full of examples to admire.

Behold, the new typewalk.com! ”Typewalk is an open archive for recording lettering in public spaces. It treats signage as designed, site-specific and ephemeral cultural heritage, and makes it systematically searchable.”

Typewalk Typewalk – Lettering in public spaces Discover and document lettering in public spaces. Signs, shop windows and façades — connected by walks through the city.

#inktober day 26: zip

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A person stands on a hill under a blue evening sky dotted with stars. The person is reaching out to grasp a very large red zipper. The zipper is casting a red glow on the front of the person. The zipper has unzipped part of the night sky, revealing a blue daytime sky with white clouds. In the distance of the nighttime scene is a dim line of trees. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman."

#inktober day 25: fracture

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A minimalist stone castle with smooth walls and only two turrets looms against a blue evening sky. In the top right of the sky is a white crescent moon. The castle is fused into the rocky ground, with rocky striations that look a little like tree roots. Running up the side of the larger turret is an ominous crack that someone has tried to clumsily patch with brown duct tape. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

#inktober day 24: bake

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A person stands on a ladder, holding a trowel and a bucket. They are shaping the clay head of a giant clay figure sitting in front of them. The head has a grim expression and is disproportionately large compared to the figure's body. It looks as though it is being worn like a helmet. Both the head and the figure are an orange-brown clay color. Next to the ladder sits a small table with another bucket of orange clay on it. The sky is bright yellow, under a blazing white sun. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

#inktober day 23: dapper

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A hulking, dark figure stands against a red sky, a yellow-green moon glowing in the top right of the sky. The figure is monstrously large with a small head and huge hands. It is wearing a top hat, a suit coat, and a tie and pocket square. Its face is not visible, hidden in shadow. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

#inktober day 19: confused

#notesArt #mastoArt #art #illustration #fediArt

A person stands on the edge of a grassy cliff, reaching into the blue sky and grabbing it. The sky wrinkles where the person clutches it as though it is made of paper. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".
