And I have a #caturday! I went to get veg from the farm shop and Rudi (former hedgehog food thief) came to greet me. We had lots of cuddles, she groomed my hair and dribbled a lot!

I have a gambel oak that I got free from my city a year-and-a-half ago. Critters tried to destroy it after I planted it, so it’s heavily protected until it gets better established. It recovered pretty well this year and has some really pretty leaves. It’s more of a shrub than a tree, and once established is supposed to form a thicket. I’m looking forward to that, hopefully. 🤞🏽

Looking down at the top of a gambel oak plant growing inside protective wire fencing. There are two stems growing from the bottom of the plant, and each stem has several leaves arrayed around it. The leaves are dark green with wavy, rounded, lobed edges and prominent, branching veins in each leaf.

A rounded mushroom cap is growing amid Redwood duff, grass and weeds in Cowen Park. The cap is white with reddish brown scales. The cap looks finely shaggy. Turning the mushroom over, you can see it's larger than it first appeared. The cap rim is shaggy. The gills are crowded and a light tan. The ring on the stipe is creamy white, detached, and also shaggy looking. The stipe is fairly slender, colored reddish orange below the ring, with a bulbous foot. The flesh turned a reddish shade when broken. Although it is listed as edible, some people are very sensitive and get quite sick when eating them. I'll pass!

A slender Orange Waxcap is growing up out of the forest floor. It is about 2.5 inches high with an umbrella like Orange Cap with pale yellow gills underneath. The stem is bright orange. It is leaning against a backdrop of decaying leaves which highlights its bright color. Looking down at 2 Chicken of the Woods mushrooms growing out like 2 shelves from a dead fallen tree. They are each about 4 inches across and are bright orange with fading yellow at the edges. An Eastern Caesar’s Amanita growing up out of the leaf litter. Its cap is bright orange and has not fully opened, looking somewhat like a knobby thimble. Is stem is yellow with blushes of orange. A fern is in the background. Looking straight down on 4 bright Orange Peel mushrooms grow atop a gravel road. Each is dime-sized and look like wavy little discs or the inside of an ear.
